"As a young person, you’re in search of finding yourself and how/where you fit in. Now imagine dealing with that, identifying as LGBTQ2S+ and having no support at home. Lulu's Lodge is not only a safe space for these young people coming into their own, but also provides the support they wouldn’t have anywhere else. It’s through community support that Lulu's can continue to be that support and safe place for our LGBTQ2S+ youth. I am so honoured to be asked to WALK THE WALK and help raise support for our LGBTQ2S+ community!"

"I cannot imagine what it must be like to be homeless because you have made the brave decision to be who you are and not conform. It breaks my heart to think about kids on the street because of that. I want to learn more and to help so we can be a more compassionate, welcoming community."

"Prior to last summer I had never heard of Lulu’s Lodge but when I did, I was so happy to know that such a place exists. As a journalist, and an Indigenous person, I am aware of the stigma that young LGBTQ2S+ face. A lot has changed over the years but in some ways, we still have a long way to go in acceptance, understanding and caring. I want to be an advocate for Lulu’s and all LGBTQS+ people."

"Being a teenager isn’t easy for anyone, especially kids in the LGBTQ2S+ community who don’t have the support of their family. I’m grateful to the people who run Lulu’s Lodge for the lifesaving work they do, being that family for young people everyday. I’m done standing on the sidelines and ready to strut “purse first" into this competition. So watch out “Walk The Walk” competitors. Captain Morgan didn’t come to play. I’ve come to slay, all day! BRB practicing my death drop."

"I am participating in this fundraiser because I believe it is a very worthy cause. No child regardless of gender or sexuality should be without a home. I want to use my privilege to help raise money and awareness for the youth who are left both voiceless and homeless. "

Shanon Zachidniak
Ward 8 Councillor, City of Regina

"I’m excited to both participate and to have collaborated with Flo Mingo to plan this event because:

  • Lulu’s Lodge provides an important role in our community as a home for Gender and Sexually Diverse (GSD) youth at risk of homelessness.
  • John Howard Sask needs to raise $100,000 to purchase a new home for these youth.
  • As a City Councillor, I have seen the need for more love and acceptance for the GSD community in our city. This is a great opportunity for all of us to emphasize that love is love!
Let’s push ourselves outside our comfort zones and show #YQR how much fun it is to live in a city that is welcoming and inclusive for EVERYONE!"
