DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the CEO, or his/her designate, the Branch Manager will oversee day-to-day operations in Prince Albert.

• Develop a healthy and positive work culture by:
 Setting and maintaining a high standard of communication between staff, clients, stakeholders, Provincial Office and The Union
 Provide clear work and performance expectations
 Offer regular constructive feedback
 Actively support the Collective Bargaining Agreement and build a proactive relationship with SGEU’s designated representative(s).

• Provide oversight of Branch Programming:
o Financial:
 Budget planning and oversight for all programs assigned
 Management of financial statements
 Meeting program outcome measures and contract compliance in collaboration with Provincial Office
 Responsible for all spending related to assigned programs

o Operational:
 Strategic planning and development of new ideas/programs
 Writing grant applications
 Liaise with funding partners and stakeholders
 Apply best practice models and methods to ensure the highest standard of case management from staff
 Administer performance measures to ensure program standards are met within all programs
 Lead weekly and other staff meetings as required
 Assist staff with complex situations and case plans for clients

o Administrative/People Practices:
 Coordinate overall staffing and complete long-term scheduling within assigned programs
 Work in collaboration with Human Resources to interview and select appropriate candidates to fill new job openings using JHSS hiring criteria
 Conduct regular performance reviews using JHSS performance review tools
 Conduct disciplinary meetings with staff when required using established JHSS procedures and policies
 In conjunction with HR/Payroll provide orientation for new hires
 Plan and implement ongoing training and coaching for staff
 Review timesheets, ensuring accuracy, while ensuring that payroll submission deadlines are always met
 Work in collaboration with HR to complete other human resources functions as required

• Have oversight for the daily operations of the Branch office and assign operational tasks
• Review services and programs being provided regionally in conjunction with the Provincial Management team
• Develop new ideas/programs as needs emerge
• Initiate and complete grant applications
• Responsible for project reporting
• Work with Provincial Office to increase the positive profile of the organization in the region
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Bachelor’s degree in the Human Services sector from a recognized University or Post-secondary Institution
• At least three years of work experience in a residential setting, with experience in intensive case management
• Two or more years’ experience in a supervisory/management role
• Experience managing staff in a unionized environment would be considered an asset
• Willingness to comply with the designated Risk Management policies of the National John Howard Society
• Certified in First Aid and CPR
• Suicide Intervention training
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training
• A valid driver’s license
• Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector check (within the last 3 months)

• An understanding and commitment to the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the John Howard Society
• Knowledge of the risk factors and protective factors of marginalized persons
• A working knowledge and experience working in a residential setting.

• Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills
• Solid writing and case management skills
• Demonstrated ability to maintain positive relationships with youth, staff, clients, government representatives, community and the Union.
